In all honesty, "Chattanooga" and "izakaya" shouldn't even be in the same sentence. The Japanese answer to the English pub, izakayas are usually reserved for cities with skyscrapers. Cities with, at the very least, a half-a-million inhabitants. Cities that have hosted the Olympics, like London, England or Vancouver, Canada. Cities with professional football franchises that have won a Super Bowl, like Miami or Seattle. Cities with fiscal budgets in the billions, like Charlotte, North Carolina. Cities with at least a Ritz-Carlton hotel, like Atlanta.

Chattanooga doesn't meet any of these requirements, but somehow, some way, it's managed to pull an izakaya out of the hat, like a magician does a rabbit. Read the full Times Free Press Story through the link below.
